A Message from the Governor

To All Conference Participants:

From Independence Hall in Philadelphia to the battlefields at Gettysburg; from the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona to the Underground Railroad on our side of the Mason-Dixon line; from the coal miners' village of Eckely to the re-created cities of Pittsburgh and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is home to some of the greatest places in America. Here and elsewhere, heritage is preserved, revealed, recreated and waiting for you to discover.

The future of these great places depends, in-part, on our ability to transform local economies through tourism revenue. It is up to key stakeholders on the front lines of economic development in your community to work together to promote tourism in a way that preserves heritage and embraces progress. During this first-of-its-kind conference, we anticipate a substantive and interactive analysis of place-based tourism, and consensus on a "blueprint for partnership" that will form the foundation for a master plan for sustainable tourism across Pennsylvania.

Thank you for your participation and for doing your part to celebrate and promote the unique character of Pennsylvania's greatest places.

Sincerely,

Edward G. Rendell
Governor

Celebrating communities, transforming economies.
